Too often, people experiencing a mental health crisis do not
receive a mental health response. Instead, people in crisis frequently are caught
up cycling in and out of emergency rooms, jails, and homelessness.
We deserve better. By signing this petition, I add my name
to the movement of people urging federal, state, and local policymakers to address our communities’
crisis response. Policymakers should act quickly to ensure we are connecting people
in crisis with the right care, including providing:
- 24/7 crisis call centers to answer calls to 988 locally, providing immediate support and connecting people to local resources and follow-up care
- Mobile crisis teams to provide an in-person response by mental health professionals and connect them to follow-up care
- Crisis stabilization programs that can help a person in crisis, identifying longer-term treatment needs and keeping a person from needing more intensive care
A system that includes these components can change the
standard of care people expect to receive in in a crisis.
Sign this petition to add your voice to the movement to
reimagine our nation’s crisis system and demand this standard of care be
available in every community.
