Support Access to Care through Medicaid

Access to health care coverage is essential for anyone, especially people with a mental health condition. But did you know that Medicaid is the nation’s largest payer of mental health and substance use condition services? Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of people – and we need to protect it.

Medicaid is a public health insurance program that covers over 72 million people, including many people with mental health conditions, as well as pregnant women, children, people with disabilities, working families and veterans. In fact, more than 1 in 4 adults with serious mental illness rely on Medicaid for coverage. Through Medicaid coverage, people with mental health conditions can access critical services like therapy, inpatient treatment, and prescription medications.

Add your name to show your support for Medicaid and help NAMI protect access to mental health and substance use care. We'll be reaching out with more opportunities in the coming weeks when and where your voice can make a difference.

Medicaid may even be called by a different name state-by-state, such as Medi-Cal in California or BadgerCare in Wisconsin. Use this tool to find the name of your state’s Medicaid program and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
